Information on the Courses

The Pre-Marriage Course is a practical five-session course, one evening per week, for couples who are engaged or exploring the idea of marriage. It's also an excellent first course for married or cohabiting couples if they have not yet taken part in "The Marriage Course".

The Marriage Course can be one of two different courses depending on which one we run. Either way it is geared more to married couples who wish to overcome difficulties in their marriage, or simply explore ways to improve or deepen their relationship.

The courses are entirely free and is run either in-person or via Zoom. There is a preliminary questionnaire, and then one at the end. It's amazing how some opinions change! It's fun, and invariably surprising in many areas, as you explore how you each feel about marriage, and your own expectations within it. Each of you receive a free PDF format journal which enables you to record the discussions you and your partner have.

Each session is about one and half hours. There is a video each evening which is interspersed with times where you as a couple discuss some aspect of marriage or some expectation within marriage (eg. How is money managed? How is time managed? Does the GPS in fact cure travel direction arguments or not? Who does do the washing up?). All sessions are completely confidential. Your host is there as a facilitator, and someone to "join the dots", but will never hear you, or watch you online, as you discuss the various topics presented to you.

At the end of the course there is a certificate of completion, and optionally you can be introduced to "marriage mentors", who are an experienced marriage friendship couple who will be there for you when questions and issues arise - because they will!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

When and Where

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 20-25 minutes early to get a parking spot in the public car park that is behind the church, to the rear of the main bus stop. Sorry, we are a town centre church and there is no parking available on the site. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome lanyard.

Accessibility:

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets at the rear of the church and also in the Front Room café.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, we share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church, one of our leaders will give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We often finish with the children and youth joining us and sharing what they have been getting up to. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service. We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service ends. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

What about children and youth?

We have a great programme lined up for children and youth, called ShineShine is a central part of our Children, Youth and Families Team activity. It's a great way for families to start Sundays! All children and young people are welcome, and parents and carers can stay as well (in fact you are encouraged to!) A Welcome Team member will be very happy to direct you to the leaders relevant to the age(s) in question.
