Life Groups

image: Small Groups

What is a "life group"? The simplest definition is two or more people, usually not more than twelve, who meet to "do life" together and develop deep friendships. It's where people can be confident they can "rejoice with those who rejoice; and mourn with those who mourn", as it says in Romans 12:15, knowing there is complete confidentiality within that group.  They can meet in church members' homes or, frankly, just about anywhere. Each life group is different and will meet at different times, not necessarily the same time each week or month.

Some groups are based around a particular common activity, such as walking, motorcycling, a particular sport or, believe it or not, Bible study. Each group can be a mix of Christians and those who haven't yet committed their life to Jesus, so nobody need feel left out. Whatever the basic activity, the essence of the life group is support for one another without fear of judgement or criticism. Somewhere where you can ask anything and express anything. Somewhere where you can find prayer and physical support in times of need. Some groups are men only, some are women only, some are for younger parents, some for older folk, some for 'anybody'. You get the idea! It's all very flexible.

Life groups are part of Brixham Baptist's intentional pastoral care for everyone who forms part of our "family". Nobody need feel alone, out of place or unwelcome.  Enter your contact details here (*Mandatory Fields) and we will put you in touch with a life group leader/coordinator who will introduce you to their group(s) as a first step. Alternatively contact Colin Opie directly. Thank you.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

church

When and Where

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving a bit early to get a parking spot in the public car park that is behind the church, to the rear of the main bus stop. Sadly we are a town centre church and without onsite parking. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our Welcome Team.

Accessibility:

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets at the rear of the church and also in the Front Room café.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members and a relaxed and informal style and usually lasts about 75 minutes. In the service there is sung worship, prayers, sharing of testimonies and stories together and bible-based teaching to encourage us to apply our faith to our everyday life. We usually finish with the children and youth joining us and sharing what they have been doing that morning. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service or ask questions. We serve drinks and biscuits after the service ends. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

And if you are not yet a believer, or have questions about the Christian faith, then you will be welcome too as we feel everyone is on a journey which is best travelled together.

What about children and youth?

We have a great programme lined up for children and youth, called ShineShine is a central part of our Children, Youth and Families Team activity. It's a great way for families to start Sundays! All children and young people are welcome, and parents and carers can stay as well (in fact you are encouraged to!) A Welcome Team member will be very happy to direct you to the leaders relevant to the age(s) in question.
