Welcome to Lift-off! Lift-off Logo

Lift-off! is one of our new Life Groups. It is a kind of Alpha+ group, so particularly suited to those who have been to an Alpha course and now want to move on in their experience.

It is therefore for those who would like to get stuck into the Bible but aren't really sure where to start, or would at least like a little more basic know-how. Let's face it, it's a big library of 66 books written by around 40 people over the space of 3,000 years or more. That's a lot to take in when wanting to read the Bible for all it's worth!

It is also for anyone who would like to know more about what the Christian walk (discipleship) is all about. Just how do we live our Christian lives day by day? What does it involve? What relevance does it have to everyday life?

Lift-off! is run by Colin and Maria, and is held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings of each month, from 7pm to 9pm. It will normally be held in the Front Room, or at least in the church here at Brixham Baptist. On any occasional week we may all agree to go off and do something together elsewhere for an evening (or other time). If we do change the venue, we will post that news here and also email everyone who normally comes to the group.

In Lift-off! we all come with some nibble-like food (enough for one/two people at most). Drinks will be provided, but of course feel free to bring any non-alcoholic refreshment you want. If you cannot supply anything, come anyway! There is always enough to share out and nobody will know whether you were able to chip in or not, because all supplies are dropped in one place ready to be shared out. This is how early Christians joined together to share friendship, food, discipleship and Scripture. It is a welcoming, sharing, learning space for everyone, irrespective of personal circumstances. It's why this is called an "agape" meal, literally a "love" feast. That is, a time where we share the love of Jesus with one another over food and Scripture.

It would be helpful to know if you would like to come along. You can use the form below and we will be in touch. Alternatively just turn up!

A very readable and useful translation of the Bible will be given to everyone who attends, so that as we discuss things we will all be looking at the same version. That's a good start!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

church

When and Where

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving a bit early to get a parking spot in the public car park that is behind the church, to the rear of the main bus stop. Sadly we are a town centre church and without onsite parking. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our Welcome Team.

Accessibility:

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets at the rear of the church and also in the Front Room café.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members and a relaxed and informal style and usually lasts about 75 minutes. In the service there is sung worship, prayers, sharing of testimonies and stories together and bible-based teaching to encourage us to apply our faith to our everyday life. We usually finish with the children and youth joining us and sharing what they have been doing that morning. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service or ask questions. We serve drinks and biscuits after the service ends. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

And if you are not yet a believer, or have questions about the Christian faith, then you will be welcome too as we feel everyone is on a journey which is best travelled together.

What about children and youth?

We have a great programme lined up for children and youth, called ShineShine is a central part of our Children, Youth and Families Team activity. It's a great way for families to start Sundays! All children and young people are welcome, and parents and carers can stay as well (in fact you are encouraged to!) A Welcome Team member will be very happy to direct you to the leaders relevant to the age(s) in question.
