About Us

images-About-Us

We are a Baptist church in the beautiful fishing port of Brixham, Devon, UK. Established in 1797, we have grown and changed over the years yet still remain true to our gospel roots to shine for Jesus in the darkness.
We welcome locals and holidaymakers, young and old, the committed and the curious, saints and sinners, just as Jesus does. We really hope that you will feel at home among us and want to join us as we GATHER, GO and GIVE.
Our Sunday mornings begin with a warm welcome and an opportunity to grow in faith. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, but incorporates a dynamic and lively with a mix of old and new songs, learning together from God's Word as we worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth. We believe that everyone will go away challenged and changed.

Our Scripture verses for recent years have been:

2022
Isaiah 56, verse 5
2023
Isaiah 60, verses 1-2
2024
Luke 11, verse 1
VFY 2022
VFY 2023 VFY 2024

We are also active in our local community working alongside other agencies as well as running our own projects as an expression of the love of God in a practical way.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

church

When and Where

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving a bit early to get a parking spot in the public car park that is behind the church, to the rear of the main bus stop. Sadly we are a town centre church and without onsite parking. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our Welcome Team.

Accessibility:

There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets at the rear of the church and also in the Front Room café.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members and a relaxed and informal style and usually lasts about 75 minutes. In the service there is sung worship, prayers, sharing of testimonies and stories together and bible-based teaching to encourage us to apply our faith to our everyday life. We usually finish with the children and youth joining us and sharing what they have been doing that morning. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service or ask questions. We serve drinks and biscuits after the service ends. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

And if you are not yet a believer, or have questions about the Christian faith, then you will be welcome too as we feel everyone is on a journey which is best travelled together.

What about children and youth?

We have a great programme lined up for children and youth, called ShineShine is a central part of our Children, Youth and Families Team activity. It's a great way for families to start Sundays! All children and young people are welcome, and parents and carers can stay as well (in fact you are encouraged to!) A Welcome Team member will be very happy to direct you to the leaders relevant to the age(s) in question.
